Session 2A11: Collaboration: Using the Global Resources of Suppliers and "Co-opetition" to Speed Time-to-MarketManufacturers working to collapse product development cycles and accelerate time-to-customer are increasingly relying on an expanding global network of partnerships to gain access to the resources and competencies they need to be competitive. As a result, collaboration has become an integral part of doing business, not only with supply-chain partners but also with companies that may find themselves collaborating on one project while competing on others. But developing effective philosophies, policies and procedures for "co-opetition," as well as selecting the tools, technologies and infrastructure to support this vision, are daunting tasks. This session will explore critical issues including selecting partners who share your vision, rapidly gauging potential partners' technological prowess and ability to deliver, and granting controlled access to critical data.

Session 2P11: Supply Chain Management: What It Takes to Bring Suppliers OnlineWith traditional paper-based purchasing processes, the cost of administering procurement transactions may sometimes rival or even exceed the value of the goods being purchased. Moreover, purchasing bottlenecks are often the chokepoint holding back efforts to streamline product development and accelerate tim-to-revenue. Now, manufacturers have begun scrambling to implement online supply chain management and e-Procurement to break through this logjam, and also facilitate faster, closer partnering with suppliers beginning in the early stages of product development. However, manufacturers pursuing this promising new approach are encountering a range of challenges, such as how to handle valued suppliers that are not yet technologically up to speed. This session will reveal how leading manufacturers have addressed these and related challenges in their implementation of time- and money-saving SCM strategies.
