Thomas Chimner is the Design/CAE Manager of Eaton’s Truck Technology group in Southfield, MI—a position he has held since February 2003. Mr. Chimner is responsible for providing computer-aided engineering services for the entire Truck business unit. His department also provides design services to the technology team for the development of advanced transmission and powertrain systems. Mr. Chimner has over twenty-five years of experience as an industry recognized CAE expert. He has extensive product knowledge of truck transmissions and automotive engine and powertrain components. He is a specialist in finite element technology applied to mechanical components in the field of structural, heat transfer, and dynamic analysis. Mr. Chimner also has experience with fatigue life and gear design technology. Mr. Chimner joined Eaton in 1981 as a technical specialist working for Eaton’s Innovation Center in Southfield, MI. In 1996 he was promoted to supervisor of the computer aided engineering team, and in 2001 he became manager of the Virtual Prototyping department. Prior to joining Eaton Corporation, Mr. Chimner worked as a product engineer for Air Products and Chemical in Allentown, PA from 1975 to 1981. He started his career as a piping stress engineer and later moved into the advanced design department providing stress analysis expertise. Mr. Chimner holds two US patents related to an automotive driveline isolator damper concept.
