Scott Hopkins is the general manager of IBM Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), which includes a worldwide team of specialized sales, marketing, and support professionals. The PLM business unit covers all IBM product lifecycle management solutions, including computer-aided design applications, manufacturing and engineering IT solutions, and related e-business hardware and services offerings. Prior to assuming the post of general manager of IBM PLM in June 2003, Scott successfully managed a number of IBM businesses, most recently as IBM vice president of sales, General Electric, where he oversaw all activity with GE companies worldwide. In conjunction with this role, Scott was also in charge of site management of IBM’s Charlotte, North Carolina facility of 2000 employees. From 1990 to 2000, Scott contributed to the success of IBM’s growing PLM business, holding various leadership roles ranging from Manufacturing Marketing Manager, to Electronics Industry Manager, to vice president of Sales, Global Large Accounts for PLM. Scott began his career at IBM’s Poughkeepsie Mainframe Manufacturing site in 1983 where he held engineering and engineering management roles responsible for manufacturing engineering, equipment design, best practices implementation and manufacturing efficiencies. Scott’s interest in engineering goes back to his student days. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Masters in Industrial Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
