Biography

Jack Harris is the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology for Rockwell Collins. In this capacity he is responsible for the strategic direction of manufacturing technology and process development. This includes the alignment of business unit needs with manufacturing capabilities at over a dozen manufacturing locations.

Prior to joining Rockwell Collins, Harris served in the USAF. Over his thirty-year career at Rockwell Collins, he has been involved in many product developments, and has held a number of leadership positions in design, advanced technology engineering and manufacturing operations. In 1993, he was awarded the Collins Pioneer Leadership award for development and implementation of a computer aided engineering strategy for Commercial Avionics Engineering.

Harris is currently involved in a number of local and national industry consortia and academic steering boards, focused on collaborative R&D and enhancing engineering education. He was instrumental in the launch of Iowa’s Advanced Manufacturing Research and Collaboration Cluster (AMRCC), and served as the AMRCC board chairman from 1999-2002. Harris serves on the Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing International (CAM-I) Board of Directors. He was the initial board chairman for the Integrated Manufacturing Technology Initiative (IMTI) in 2000, and is the current Board of Directors chairman for PDES Inc. Harris holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Engineering Management.

He is married with two grown children, and enjoys running, volleyball, golf and restoring Datsun 280Z sports cars.
