Biography

Don O’Connell is the Mechanical Tools Manager for Diagnostics division of Abbott Laboratories. His current responsibilities include the implementation, customization and process development of the mechanical within Abbott. He has been working in the mechanical engineering field for over 26 years. Prior to joining Abbott, O’Connell worked in a wide range of disciplines, including the stress and strain analysis of heavy-duty tackle for overhead cranes to electronic packaging and cooling of telecommunications equipment. O’Connell started working with CAD/CAM, CAE software in 1984. His software experience includes many of the major software products including AutoCAD, Pro/E and I-DEAS NX. He has developed processes and tool utilization practices for engineering design to field service.
