Following four years in the merchant Navy as an engineer, Paul Muir received an honours degree in Computer Aided Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Upon graduation Muir gained experience working on design engineering projects with Unisys. Subsequently he moved into IT sales, which led him ultimately to acquire and develop the UK's largest CAD reseller. Paul founded McLaren in 1996 and attracted venture capital funding in 2000 to develop McLaren internationally and invest in transforming the business into a software company.
