PTC Reports Q3 2010 Revenue Up 7%
 PTC reported Q3 revenue of $243 million up 7% year over year.  License revenue was $67.5 million, up 37%  from $49.4 million year over year, and on par with license revenue it posted back in Q3 2007.   Service and maintenance revenue was slightly down at $175.5 million from $176.7 million year over year. CEO until November Richard Harrison noted that their sales pipeline is strong with new and existing customers. Jim Heppelman who will asssume the CEO job in November, announced that PTC had two 'domino' wins this quarter.  PTC, Dassault and Siemens PLM have for years claimed business wins from each others customers and PTC refers to these as 'domino' accounts.  Dassault reports July 29th so we'll be listening  to hear if they claim any wins from PTC or Siemens PLM.  PTC gave guidance for Q4 of $255 -$265 million and full year revenue of $1 billion.

Nokia Reports NAVTEQ Revenues in Q2 2010
 Nokia reported Q2 2010 revenue of $12.8 billion.  NAVTEQ contributed $323.8 million to revenue, up 71% year over year.  They attributed the increase in revenue to improved conditions in the automotive industry and growth in mobile device sales.  NAVTEQ's gross margin was 81.4%.  Operating loss was $104 million compared to a profit of $25.8 million in the same quarter last year.

TomTom Releases Custom Travel Times
TomTom, the Dutch location and navigation company, has released a traffic database for custom traffic planning and analysis.  Based upon historical data collected from TomTom users since 2007, Custom Traffic Times  for governments and enterprises will querry for specific routes and time periods to generate expected road usage and patterns and road-network performance. It's available now for a selected countries including the US, Canada and UK.

Autodesk Plant Design Suite 2011 Released
Autodesk has combined a group of plant related products and released  Autodesk Plant Design Suite 2011.  Included  are AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD P&ID 2011, AutoCAD Plant 3D 2011, and Autodesk Navisworks 2011. It is available now in two editions, the Premium and the Advanced. A trial version of AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD P&ID and Navisworks Manage may be downloaded here.

Ordnance Survey’s OS Open Data Three Month Status Report
The UK mapping agency Ordnance Survey released a free mapping and geographic information download,  OS OpenData, in April to create and support innovative, interesting ideas and applications using Ordnance Survey maps.  They have seen a huge range of different uses, from mapping elephants across London to adding road routing information for emergency services and are looking for anyone using OS OpenData to email their appicaltion at opendata@ordnancesurvey.co.uk.

TerraGo Technologies filed a Form D, Notice of Exempt Offering of Securities, with the SEC today.  In the filing TerraGo listed a total equity offering of $3 M, $1.9 M sold with a $1.1 yet to be sold.  Original investors in TerraGo's Series A financing or $6.3 M in 2007 were RedShift Ventures, CNF Investments and In-Q-Tel, the investing vehicle of the CIA.

PTC Lowers Revenue Targets
PTC revised its Q3, ending June 30, and FY2010, ending September 30, revenue guidance due to the impact of currency fluctuations.  The euro to the US dollar exhange has fallen 10% since PTC issued guidance in April.  Impact on Q3 revenue is $5 million and Q4 is $10 million.  In related news, Jim Heppelmann speaking at PTC World indicated that Windchill revenue would be in the range of $500 million in 2010.

CIMData's Ed Miller is no more.  All of us at Daratech mourn his passing and wish his family and the people he was close to our sincerest condolences. It is a sad day indeed.  Ed was of one of the icons of the PDM, PLM and CAD/CAM analyst community who contributed mightily to the understanding and potential of these ground-breaking technologies and their application.  Ed was a fair and honorable man, and we shall miss him and the perspective and vision that he brought to the application of computers to engineering and manufacturing.

AVEVA anounced that they will buy the enterprise asset management software division of ADB Systemer AS for $6.4 million and the material control and production planning software company Logimatics Software A/S for $18.7 million. Both deals are for cash and will close on June 30, 2010.  Both will be integrated into the AVEVA NET solution.

AVEVA Reports Preliminary FY2010 Revenue Results
AVEVA reported FY2010, period end March 31, 2010, revenues of £148.3, down 10% from last year's revenue of £164.0. Net income was £33,440 down 21% from last year's net income of £42,154.  Brazil showed strong growth, North America was 'subdued', Canada was the first casualty of the oil price decline, Europe was down slightly, Asia declined with the exception of China which showed growth.  Power showed most stability, the oil and gas markets were soft and the marine business was most impacted by the economy this past year.

Autodesk and Open Design Alliance Settle on DWG Trademarks
Autodesk and Open Design Alliance (April 10, 2010) agreed to settle the pending legal disputes related to  Autodesk's DWG Trademark.  In 2007 Autodesk sued to cancel ODA's DWG-based trademark registrations.  ODA has agreed to cancel DWG based trademark registrations and cease use of DWG and DWG-based trademarks. Autodesk will withdraw the cancellation proceedings. ODA may develop interoperable software and use the dwg. file extension.

ESI Group (March 15, 2010) reported sales for Q4 of €30.1m up 9.6 % from €27.5m for the same period last year, and full year revenue of €75.1m up 7.1% from last year’s revenue of €70.2m. License revenue for Q4 was €24.9 up 11.8% over last year’s Q4 revenue of €22.2m. Full year license revenue was € 54.1m and contributed 72% of total revenue. ESI’s acquisition, US based Mindware, contributed €5.2m to revenue. Geographic breakdown of revenue was: Americas 22%; Europe, 45%; and Asia, 33%. Alain de Rouvray, Group Chairman and CEO, looks for continued growth and profitability in FY2010/2011.

Three States Use ESRI’s BroadbandStat
ESRI (March 15, 2010) and non-profit  Connected Nation'

s GIS application BroadbandStat will be used by Illinois, Ohio and Tennessee to map broadband access in the states which will enable residents and businesses  to find by any address in the state a list of Internet providers that serve that address.  TARP funds of $7.2 billion have been sent aside to expand broadband infrastructure nationwide.  BroadbandStat was developed by ESRI in conjunction with Connected Nation, in an effort to  promote broadband expansion and the use of the internet.  It is reported that 90% of the US has broadband access at this time.

ANSYS (February 25, 2010) reported quarterly and fiscal year results for period end December 31, 2009. Q4 revenue was $150.4 million, up 11% from $135.3 million for the same quarter last year.  FY2009 revenue was $516.9 million, up 8%  from FY2008 revenue of $478.3 million.  This years results include full year reporting of Ansoft revenues, which on a non-GAAP basis contributed $91.9 million to revenue.

Autodesk Reports Q4 2010 and FY 2010
Autodesk (February 23, 2010) reported Q4 revenues of $456 million and FY 2010 revenue of $1.7 billion. Revenue for the quarter was down 7% from Q4 09 revenue of $289.9 million and FY revenue was down 26% from FY 2009 revenue of  $2.3 billion.  Maintenance revenue grew 3.5% from the same quarter last year and 3% for the year.  License revenue was down 13% from the same quarter last year and 39% from FY 2009.  Carl Bass was upbeat about Autodesk's prospects. They ended the quarter with revenue above expectations. Maintenance revenue was up for the quarter and the year and competitive displacement wins continued to bring in new license revenue.  He citeda focus on cost cutting that decreased Autodesk's total spend  by 20% or $430 million from the previous year and new efficiencies that contributed to their performance.  The Street liked Autodesk's results and their stock hit a 52-week high today of $28.35.

Dassault Reports Q4 and FY 2009 Results
Dassault Systèmes (February 11, 2010) reported Q4 and FY 2009 results today for period end and year end December 31, 2009. Revenue for Q4 was €339.0M down 7% y/y from €382.9M, reported in constant currencies.  License revenue was €301.1M, down 5% y/y from €382.9M.  Of this, new revenue was €96.7M.  PLM software revenue was down 3% to €237.1M and Mainstream 3D software revenue (read SolidWorks) was down 9% to €64M.  Business in the Americas held up the best this past quarter with sales down 3% y/y while sales in Europe and Asia were each down 9%.  FY09 revenue was €1251.3M down 9% in constant currencies from FY08 revenue of €1334.8M.  Software revenue was down 5% y/y to €1099.8.  Dassault says it expects a slow return to growth in 2010 and that the IBM acquisition to be completed by April.
