nCODE International, known for its durability and fatigue analysis technology, was acquired by HBM, an Australian weighing technologies, test and measurement company and a subsidiary of UK based Spectris plc, the instruments and controls maker. The purchase price was $34.6 million (£17.5m) with an additional payout of up to $7.9 million (£4m)if they meet certain performace standards.

Siemens Buys innotec
Siemens AG said it will acquire German process software company innotec GmbH for an undisclosed sum. As a result of the acquisition, innotec will be assigned to the Siemens Industrial Automation Systems business unit, where it will join the former UGS, now Siemens PLM. Siemens will now have software solutions for the discrete and process industires. According to Siemens they are the "first industrial equipment provider able to offer all sectors of the manufacturing and the process industries system-wide solutions for integrating their entire production sequence and production life cycle."

Mentor Graphics and Cadence Design Systems – Deal Off
Cadence’s $1.49 billion offer for rival semiconductor design software company, Mentor Graphics, is off. Cadence withdrew the offer on August 15th for Mentor. The Street liked the deal and it would have filled in gap in Cadence’s design-for-manufacturing (DFM) offerings. Meanwhile, Mentor was busy buying up 30% of Flomerics’ stock and being rebuffed by their board. But while the Mentor—Cadence deal was off, Flomerics, after acknowledging it was talking to Autodesk, took Mentor’s increased cash offer of $60 million.

Autodesk Will Acquire ECSCAD Technology from Mensch und Maschine Deutschland GmbH
Autodesk (August 20, 2008 announced that they will buy assets of Elektro-CAE-Software GmbH (ECS), a provider of electrical computer-aided design (CAD) software, best known for ECSCAD technology. They will purchase Elektro CAE from Mensch und Maschine Deutschland GmbH, a division of their key master distributor in Europe Mensch und Maschine Group. ECS technologies will be added to AutoCAD Eectrical and offered as a Digital Prototyping solution to integrate both mechanical and electrical for controls design. MSC Software Releases 2008 Second Quarter Financial Results
MSC Software (Q2 2008) reported results for its second quarter ending June 30, 2008. MSC reported earnings down 56% y/y to $1 million on revenue up 6% y/y to $64.4 million, primarily due to the impact from favorable changes in foreign currency rates totaling $5.9 million. Excluding the effect of changes in foreign currency rates, total revenue for the three months ended June 30, 2008 decreased 4%. License and other revenue fell 8% y/y to $21.1 million, services rose 26% to $7.4 million and maintenance revenue increased 13% to $35.9 million. Americas revenue increased 17% to $20.1 million, EMEA revenue saw almost no growth with revenue of $24.8 million and Asia Pacific revenue grew 4% to $19.5 million. MSC’s product transition is proving to be a difficult one in tough economic times.  MSC is taking a firmer control over expenses and is cutting costs, including a 6% reduction in staff in Q2.

Autodesk Releases Solid 2009 Second Quarter Financial Results
Autodesk (Q2 2009) reported results for its second quarter ending July 31, 2008. Autodesk reported earnings of $89.8 million for the quarter (compared with earnings of $91.6 million in this period last year, down 2%) on revenue up 18% of $619.5 million. Revenue from licensing and other grew 12% to $440.2 million while maintenance revenue was up 35% to $179.3 million. Americas revenue increased 4% to $203 million, EMEA revenue grew 31% to $267 million, Asia Pacific revenue grew 18% to $150 million. The company said revenue from its flagship 3D design software family including Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, NavisWorks, Robobat, and Moldflow was up +36% y/y to $166 million. Exclude newly acquired Moldflow and the growth was up 31% to $159 million. This year’s acquisition activity included: On January 14, 2008, they acquired Robobat, S.A. In May 2008, they acquired REALVIZ S.A. and Kynogon SA. In June 2008, it acquired Moldflow Corporation. In June 2008, they completed two acquisitions, all the assets related to the Ecotect software tools for conceptual building performance analysis from Square One Research Ltd, and all the assets of Green Building Studio, Inc.

Dassault Systemes Releases Good 2008 Second Quarter Financial Results
Dassault Systemes (Q2 2008) reported results for it’s second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2008. Dassault reported total GAAP revenue up 7% to €326.2 million. GAAP software revenues were up 10% to €278 million. CATIA revenues had better growth (up 14% y/y to €126.6 million) than Solidworks revenue (up 6% y/y to €66.4 million). Growth in the Americas grew 2% y/y to €95.9 million, Europe 12% y/y to €157.1 million and Asia was up 3% y/y to €73.2 million. Dassault also said its board approved on July 29 the voluntary delisting of its American Depositary Shares from Nasdaq and its voluntary deregistration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Dassault plans to file a Form 25 with the SEC in October 2008 to effect the delisting.

PTC Announces Fiscal 2008 Q3 Results
PTC (Q3 2008) reported results for its fiscal third quarter ended June 28, 2008. PTC reported an 82% decline in net income to $14.47 million for the third quarter 2008, on revenue up 21% at $271.74 million. License revenue grew 25% to $77.6 million, services revenue rose 7% to $63.8 million, and maintenance revenue increased 26% to $130.3 million. Europe revenue rose 30% to $111.8 million, North America revenue grew 4% to $90 million, Pacific Rim revenue rose 5% to $34.2 million, and Japan revenue increased 86% to $35.7 million.

ANSYS Reports Strong Q2 2008 Results, Raises Guidance
ANSYS, Inc. (Q2 2008) announced revenue grew 20.6% to $111.2 million from $92.2 million for the same quarter of last year. Excluding special items, ANSYS raised full-year projections for revenue to a range of $493 million to $499 million and for EPS of $1.61 to $1.64. The company had previously projected a top line of $448 million to $452 million and EPS of $1.40 to $1.45. ANSYS completed the acquisition of Ansoft on July 31, 2008. Shares rose $1.34, or 3 percent, to $46.07 at the closing bell. The stock has traded in the 52-week range of $29.70 and $49.86.

Autodesk Releases New Version of Autodesk NavisWorks
Autodesk (August 14, 2008) announced the release of Autodesk NavisWorks 2009.1 software. The new version support DGN v8 file reader, uniting 3D content from Autodesk and Bentley for design validation, logistics analysis and construction scheduling, and offers compatibility with most native AEC design and laser scan file formats. Design data created in the BIM process can be combined with geometry and information created with other design tools, and analyzed for design interferences or constructability.

Autodesk Inventor Plastic Features Tech Preview on Autodesk Labs Available "Free"
Autodesk, Inc. (August 13, 2008) announced the availability of the Autodesk Inventor Plastic Features Technology Preview on Autodesk Labs.
